About the Program
"Posterity: Letters of Great Americans to Their Children" draws on the correspondence of influential figures in the last two hundred years of American history. Dorie McCullough Lawson provides biographical information on each of the writers of the one hundred letters cited. In order to show the private family life of these public figures, she edits and divides the letters by theme, such as "love" and "struggle." Included are letters written by fathers Albert Einstein, William Faulkner and George Bush Sr. to their children. This interview was conducted in 2004.
