About the Program
In this Encore Booknotes from October 1991, author and attorney Suzanne Garment joins host Brian Lamb in a discussion of her book, “Scandal.” According to Mrs. Garment, scandals such as Watergate, ABSCAM, and the Iran-Contra affair have eroded public trust in government. She examines what she terms is the “criminalization of politics” and the roles played by the White House, Congress, the courts and the press. The book cites over eighty cases of misconduct occurring within both political parties.
Suzanne Garment
Suzanne Garment is president of Suzanne Garment Inc., a policy consulting firm. Ms. Garment was an Associate Fellow at the National Endowment for Democracy and currently sits on is Board of Trustees. She has taught politics and public policy at both Harvard and Yale University. She was The Wall Street Journal's associate editor of the editorial page for ten years, and Special Assistant to Daniel Moynihan, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations during the Ford Administration, with whom she co-authored “A Dangerous Place.” She's also the author of “Decision to Prosecute: Organization and Public Policy in the Antitrust Division.” She has written articles and reviews in The New York Times, the Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Commentary and other publications.
