About the Program
In this Encore Booknotes presentation from 2002, law professor, journalist and author Frank Wu discusses his book “Yellow." The book examines the current state of civil rights in the United States through the experiences of Asian Americans. Prof. Wu provides an overview of the official and unofficial policies that have shaped Asian-American history and identity in the United States. He also addresses Asian American stereotypes like "the model minority" and illustrates how these concepts and others have damaged relations between communities.
Frank Wu
Frank H. Wu is the first Asian American to serve as a law professor at Howard University Law School in Washington, D.C. He is a co-editor for the course book "Race, Rights and Reparation: Law and the Japanese American Internment." Mr. Wu has written for numerous publications, including the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune and The Nation. He also writes a regular column for Asian Week. In addition, Mr. Wu is the host of the PBS series "Asian America."
