About the Program
In October of 1996, Conor Cruise O'Brien was a guest on Booknotes to discuss his book, "The Long Affair: Thomas Jefferson and the French Revolution." The book is an examination of Jefferson as a man of his times and as a present-day icon. Mr. O’Brien states that Jefferson’s tenure as American Minister to France was rather mundane. However, the advent of the French Revolution fascinated and inspired Jefferson and in 1789 he returned to the United States an ally of that cause.
