About the Program
This panel of experts explores approaches to increasing audience awareness and market demand for multicultural literature. They include acquiring libraries and expanding the interpretation of multicultural.
The panelists are Brian Kenney, the Director of the White Plains Public Library; Pat Cummings, Author/Illustrator; Mutiya Vision, the Publisher of Vision Works Publishing; Hanna Erlich, Director of Marketing for Lee & Low Books; Vanesse Lloyd Sgambati, the Director of The Literary; and Veronica Creech, Senior Director of Global Engagement at First Book.
Wade Hudson is the co-founder of Just Us Books with Cheryl Willis Hudson. The publishing company was launched in 1988. Mr Hudson is the author and editor of several children's books, including "Book of Black Heroes - Scientists Healers and Inventors: An Introduction for Young Readers" and "Powerful Words: More Than 200 Years of Extraordinary Writing by African Americans."
Mr. Kenney is the Director of the White Plains Public Library and a contributing editor to Publisher's Weekly. He is a former editorial director at Library Journal.
Ms. Cummings is the author/illustrator of My Aunt Came Back and Angel Baby. She is also the illustrator of the Coretta Scott King Award winners My Mama Needs Me and Storm in the Night. She has also been an instructor of children’s book illustration at the Parsons School of Design.
Ms. Vision is the publisher of Vision Works Publishing. She is the co-author with her husband David of ten inspirational children's books.
Ms. Erlich is Director of Marketing for Lee Low Books, where she's worked since 2008. She worked for Folio Literary and is a graduate of Tufts University.
Vanesse Lloyd Sgambati
Ms. Sgambati is the CEO of Literary Media & Publishing Consultants. She is also the founder of the African American Children's Book Project.
Ms. Creech is the Senior Director of Global Engagement at First Book. She is also the President of Purple Porch Properties.
