Bruce Riedel talks about the CIA's involvement in Afghanistan from 1979-1989, the last battle in the Cold War between the U.S. and the Soviet Union.  He also discusses the legacy of that involvement and the mistakes the U.S. made.  This event was hosted by the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC.

Bruce Riedel

Bruce Riedel is a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and director of the Brookings Intelligence Project.  He served with the CIA for 30 years.  Mr. Riedel is the author of "The Search for al Qaeda" and "The Deadly Embrace."
