After Words

After Words: Chris Tomlinson, "Tomlinson Hill," hosted by Lavar Tomlinson, Tomlinson's Touching Lives Foundation

About the Program

Fifth generation Texan, Chris Tomlinson, set out to explore his family's slave-owning history and the part of Texas that carries the family name, Tomlinson Hill.  He found a history of two families, one white and one black.  The author is the descendant of the hill's former slave owners, and LaDainian Tomlinson, former NFL running back, is a descendant of the hill's former slaves.  LaDainian's father was the last member of both Tomlinson families to live on Tomlinson Hill.  The history of both families, the author argues, demonstrates how the legacy of slavery still affects American society.  He discusses both families with Lavar Tomlinson, LaDainian's younger brother.
