From the 2014 Annapolis Book Festival in Maryland, a discussion of the Civil Rights movement with Todd Purdum, author of An Idea Whose Time Has Come: Two Presidents, Two Parties, and the Battle for the Civil Rights Act of 1964; Juan Williams, author of Eyes on the Prize: America's Civil Rights Years 1954-1965; and David Chapell, author of Waking from the Dream: The Struggle for Civil Rights in the Shadow of Martin Luther King, Jr.  The panel, from The Key School, is moderated by Robert McCarthy, Chair of the Humanities Department of The Key School.

Todd Purdum is a contributing editor at Vanity Fair and a senior writer at Politico. He also spent over twenty years at The New York Times as White House correspondent, diplomatic correspondent, and Los Angeles bureau chief.

Juan Williams

David Chappell

David Chapell is also the author of Inside Agitators: White Southerners in the Civil Rights Movement and A Stone of Hope: Prophetic Religion and the Death of Jim Crow. He is also the Rothbaum Professor of Modern American History at the University of Oklahoma.
