"Churchill's First War: Young Winston at War with the Afghans"

About the Program

Con Coughlin, defense editor of The Daily Telegraph, recounts Winston Churchill’s first military tour in Afghanistan in 1897.  The author reports that Churchill, a cavalry lieutenant at the time, authored a book of his recollections in Afghanistan, The Story of the Malakand Field Force that was published in 1898 and awarded the future British Prime Minister public recognition.  Con Coughlin speaks at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C.
