About the Program

Ambassador Haqqani, who has often been at the center of the diplomatic struggles between the U.S. and Pakistan, shares his insight on the relationship between two allies who he says view each other with mutual distrust and incomprehension.  He talks with Lisa Curtis, previously in charge of South Asian affairs for former Chair of the the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Richard Lugar and current senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation's Asian Studies Center.

About the Authors

Husain Haqqani

Husain Haqqani served as the Pakistani ambassador to the U.S. from 2008 to 2011.  He was also the Pakistani ambassador to Sri Lanka from 1992 to 1993 and an adviser to former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.  Mr. Haqqani wrote a column syndicated throughout the Middle East and South Asia.  He is now a Boston University professor and director for South and Central Asia at the Hudson Institute.
