"The Men Who Lost America: British Leadership, the American Revolution, and the Fate of the Empire"

Andrew O'Shaughnessy

About the Program

Andrew O'Shaughnessy, director of the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies at Monticello and a history professor at the University of Virginia, profiles the leaders of the British Army and examines their tactical decisions during the Revolutionary War.   The author contends that contrary to popular thinking, the British leadership did not lose the War due to incompetence, but rather from a combination of an ardent Continental Army and political issues in Britain.  Andrew O'Shaughnessy speaks at the Kansas City Library in Kansas City, Missouri.
