About the Program
Ms. Garland returns to her hometown to chronicle the fight of African-American parents who sued to prevent the closure of a predominantly black school for the sake of desegregation. Their suit resulted in a landmark Supreme Court decision that ended the era of desegregation established by the Court more than 50 years earlier with the Brown v. Board of Education opinion. Ms Garland talks with Columbia professor and political activist Marc Lamont Hill.
