About the Program
Lynn Povich, the first female senior editor at Newsweek magazine, recounts her involvement, with forty-six of her female colleagues, in a class action lawsuit against Newsweek for hiring and promotion discrimination on March 16, 1970. The author recalls the lead-up and execution of the lawsuit, filed the same day the magazine ran a cover-story on the women's movement, and the effect the lawsuit had on the litigants and future female journalists. Lynn Povich speaks at Books Inc. in Palo Alto, California.
