About the Authors

Peter Edelman

Peter Edelman is a professor of law at Georgetown University.  He served as an adviser to Senator Robert Kennedy from 1964 to 1968 and was Issues Director for Senator Edward Kennedy's 1980 presidential campaign.  Prof. Edelman resigned from his position as acting assistant secretary for planning and evaluation at the Department of Health and Human Services in 1996 to protest President Clinton's support of welfare reform legislation.
