About the Program
Theda Skocpol, government and sociology professor at Harvard University and Vanessa Williamson, PhD candidate in Government and Social Policy at Harvard University, present a study of the Tea Party. The authors examine several, regional Tea Party chapters and report that Tea Party supporters are predominantly middle-class, older Americans, who, according to the authors, mostly enjoy Medicare and Social Security benefits but are reticent to pay taxes to assist those they deem 'undeserving.' Theda Skocpol and Vanessa Williamson speak at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
