"1948: Harry Truman's Improbable Victory and the Year That Transformed America"

David Pietrusza

About the Program

David Pietrusza recounts the presidential campaign and election of 1948 that pitted Democratic candidate Harry Truman against Republican, Thomas Dewey.  The author examines the path that both nominees took to the election and the surprising upset, personified by the iconic photograph of Truman holding up a copy of the Chicago Tribune that headlined "Dewey Defeats Truman."  David Pietrusza speaks at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library in Clifton Park, New York.
