Ira Berlin

Ira Berlin is Distinguished University Professor in the Department of History at the University of Maryland.  He is the author of the Bancroft Prize-winning “Many Thousands Gone: The First Two Centuries of Slavery in North America” and “Slaves Without Masters: The Free Negro in the Antebellum South.”  Prof. Berlin is also a former president of the Organization of American Historians.
