About the Program

Leymah Gbowee discusses her memoir at the Los Angeles Public Library.  Ms. Gbowee  founded the Women of Liberia Mass Action for Peace - a women's protest movement - which is credited with being instrumental in ending the Second Liberian Civil War in 2003 and removing Charles Taylor from power. 
Ms. Gbowee was awarded the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize, along with Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Tawakkol Karman "for their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women's rights to full participation in peace-building work" on December 10,2011 in Oslo, Norway.
