"Clarence Darrow: Attorney for The Damned"

John Farrell

About the Program

John Farrell recounts the life and career of attorney Clarence Darrow (1857-1938).  The author examines the defense attorney's many noted cases, which includes his representation of Tennessee teacher John Scopes, who taught evolution in a public school and was tried for his curriculum in the Scopes Monkey Trial.  Mr. Darrow’s personal life was marked by bouts of depression and his legal career was almost ruined by an indictment for the bribing of a Los Angeles jury.  John Farrell speaks at Politics & Prose Bookstore in Washington, D.C.
