About the Program
In 2001-02, C-SPAN's "American Writers" series featured several well-known American writers who created the landscape of modern American literature. In April 2002, broadcasting live from the Ernest Hemingway house in Key West, Florida, "American Writers" spent two hours looking at the life and literary career of Ernest Hemingway.
Ernest Hemingway
The acclaimed Pulitzer and Nobel Prize-winning American novelist (1899-1961) was featured during C-SPAN's 2001-02 "American Writers" series. The author of several famous and studied novels such as "The Old Man and the Sea" and "The Sun Also Rises", Hemingway wrote extensively about his experiences covering the Spanish Civil War, living in Cuba, and big game hunting in Africa. He killed himself at his Idaho home on July 2, 1961.
