About the Program
Civil War historians Harold Holzer, James McPherson, and Stephen Sears recount the Battle of Antietam, which occurred in September 1862 in Sharpsburg, Maryland. The historians present their thoughts on the Battle at the New York Historical Society in New York City.
Harold Holzer
Harold Holzer is the author of numerous books on the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln, including Lincoln at Cooper Union that was the recipient of the 2005 Lincoln Prize. Mr. Holzer is the co-chairman of the U.S. Lincoln Bicentennial Commission and is the senior vice president for external affairs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. James McPherson
James McPherson is a professor emeritus in history at Princeton University. He is the author of several books on the Civil War, including Battle Cry of Freedom that was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in History.
Stephen Sears
Stephen Sears is the author of many books on the Civil War, including Gettysburg and Landscape Turned Red: The Battle of Antietam. He is a former editor for American Heritage.
