About the Program

Adam Goodheart, Civil War columnist for The New York Times, recounts the first year of the Civil War in 1861.  The author examines the revolutionary fervor that ran through the nation prior to the start of the War and the momentum that led to the early clashes.  April 12, 2011 marked the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War.  Adam Goodheart discusses the beginning of the Civil War with Richard Beeman, history professor at the University of Pennsylvania at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
