After Words: Peter Godwin, "The Fear: Robert Mugabe and the Martyrdom of Zimbabwe," hosted by Nicole Lee, TransAfrica Forum

About the Program

Mr. Godwin returned to his native Zimbabwe immediately following the first election lost by Robert Mugabe.  Instead of relinquishing power after 30 years, Mugabe unleashed what Mr. Godwin calls a reign of terror, brutally surpressing his political oppositon in an attempt to retain control.  Mr. Godwin discusses this period, named The Fear by natives, with the president of TransAfrica Forum, Nicole Lee.

About the Authors

Peter Godwin

Peter Godwin is an award-winning journalist and author, who was born and raised in Zimbabwe.  He covered Africa and Eastern Europe for the Sunday Times of London and was a correspondent for the BBC.  Mr. Godwin studied law and international relations at Cambridge and Oxford.
