Ms. Sharpley-Whiting presents essays about the famous "race speech" then-candidate Obama issued in March, 2008, in response to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright controversy.  The essays are interpersed with Boston Globe columnist Derrick Johnson's coverage of the highlights of the 2008 election.  The event is at Vanderbilt University.

Ms. Sharpley-Whiting is director of Vanderbilt University's program in African American and Diaspora Studies.  She is author of four boks, including "Pimps Up, Ho's Down."
