Nicholas Thompson

About the Program

Nicholas Thompson, fellow at the New American Foundation, details the contentious work relationship between defense and foreign policy advisors Paul Nitze and George Kennan, whose political thinking influenced U.S. strategy during the Cold War.  Mr. Thompson, grandson of Paul Nitze, reports that despite their disagreements Mr. Kennan and Mr. Nitze remained close friends throughout their life as they argued about the direction of  U.S. foreign policy from the use of the A-bomb to U.S. involvement in Vietnam.  This event is hosted by Politics and Prose Bookstore in Washington, DC.
