About the Program
Ronald Takaki was Book TV's In Depth guest in March 2009. He was Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley until his death in May 2009. He was a scholar of ethnic studies and the author of several books, including: "From Different Shores: Perspectives on Race and Ethnicity in America;" "Strangers from a Different Shore: A History of Asian Americans;" "Hiroshima: Why America Dropped the Atomic Bomb;" "A Larger Memory: A History of our Diversity with Voices;" "Debating Diversity: Clashing Perspectives on Race and Ethnicity in America;" and "Double Victory: A Multicultural History of America in World War II." His earlier works include: "A Pro-slavery Crusade: The Agitation to Re-open the Slave Trade," "Violence in the Black Imagination: Essays and Documents," and "Pau Hana: Plantation Life and Labor In Hawaii."
