About the Program
Historian Max Hastings recounts the final year of World War II in the Pacific theater, 1944 to 1945. Mr. Hastings profiles several of the key military and political figures, including Chiang Kai-Shek, Winston Churchill, Douglas MacArthur, and Franklin D. Roosevelt and examines the decision making process that led to the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagaski. Max Hastings discusses his book with Ed Tracy, executive producer of programs at the Pritzker Military Library in Chicago.
Max Hastings is the author of several books, including "Winston's War," “Armageddon: The Battle for Germany, 1944-1945,” and “Overlord: D-Day and the Battle for Normandy.” Mr. Hastings is a former foreign correspondent and a former editor of Britain’s Daily Telegraph and Evening Standard. He was named Britain's Journalist of the Year in 1982 and Editor of the Year in 1988.
