About the Program
Edwidge Danticat talks about her uncle Joseph, a Baptist minister who took care of her as a child in Haiti. Joseph Danticat fled Haiti in 2004, at the age of 81, and came to the U.S. seeking political asylum. Upon arrival, he was imprisoned by U.S. Homeland Security and died while in custody. "Brother, I'm Dying" was awarded the 2007 National Book Critics Circle Award for Autobiography.
