About the Program
Jim Newton recounts the life of the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, 1953 to 1969. The author examines Mr. Warren's tenure on the Court where he presided over s Brown v. Board of Education, which desegregated schools; Griswold v. Connecticut, which established a constitutional right of privacy; and Engel v. Vitale, which outlawed prayer in public schools. Mr. Newton also focuses on Earl Warren's earlier years as Attorney General and later Governor of California. Earl Warren was sworn in as Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court on October 5, 1953.
