About the Program

In his new book, "The Bystander: John F. Kennedy and the Struggle for Black Equality," author Nick Bryant chronicles President Kennedy’s engagement with race issues from his first campaign in Boston through his presidency. Mr. Bryant suggests that President Kennedy missed an opportunity to forge a national consensus on race. He discusses his book with Joseph Leonard, a former teacher who now serves as Executive Director of the Black Leadership Forum.
