About the Program
Journalist John Tayman tells the history of Kalaupapa on the remote island of Molokai that the Hawaiian government forcibly sent victims of Hansen's disease (leprosy) to relocate beginning in 1866 until 1969. Today, Kalaupapa is a national historical park and many of the remaining Hansen's disease patients still live there. It's the subject of his book, "The Colony: The Harrowing True Story of the Exiles of Molokai." He is interviewed by Rep. Ed Case (D-HI).
