Former Senator George McGovern argued that our social security crisis is a myth. In "Social Security and the Golden Age," he offered his opinion on how to preserve the program far into the future. During his discussion, the 1972 Democratic Party presidential candidate explained the importance of young and old people working together in order to secure America's financial future. This event was hosted by Politics and Prose in Washington, DC.

George McGovern died on October 21, 2012, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  He was 90.

George McGovern

George McGovern, a World War II veteran, served in the U.S. Senate for eighteen years and was the 1972 Democratic candidate for president. He ran the Food for Peace Program under President John Kennedy and was named the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization by President Bill Clinton in 1997. Sen. McGovern was awarded the Medal of Freedom in 2000.
