John Seigenthaler appeared on Booknotes in 2004 to talk about his biography of President James K. Polk. Mr. Seigenthaler described Polk as the least acknowledged president and discussed President Polk's decision to wage of war against Mexico to increase the size of the United States.
John Seigenthaler (1927-2014)
John Seigenthaler was the former president of the American Society of Newspaper Editors. He served for 43 years as the editor and publisher of Nashville’s The Tennessean and the founding editorial director of USA Today. After retiring from both The Tenessean and USA Today, Seigenthaler went on to found the First Amendment Center at Vanderbilt University in 1991.
John Seigenthaler died on July 11, 2014, at the age of 86.
