Dorothy Height appeared on Booknotes in 2003 to talk about her memoir, "Open Wide the Freedom Gates."  In the book, Ms. Height discusses her seventy years as an activist and her involvement in the civil rights movement. She included details about her work as a national staff member of the YWCA, her 41 years as president of the National Council of Negro Women, and her organization of the National Black Family Reunion celebrations.

Dorothy Height

Dorothy Height had been an activist and civil rights leader for over seventy years. She was president of the National Council of Negro Women from 1957-1998 and organized the national Black Family Reunion celebrations. She died on April 20, 2010, at the age of 98.
