About the Program

From 2003 Sen. Jim Jeffords discusses his memoir, "An Independent Man: Adventures of a Public Servant." The book tells the story of his Vermont childhood, his career in the Navy, and his life in politics. Sen. Jeffords traces his history with the Republican Party, explains his growing differences with its leadership over healthcare, education and President Clinton's impeachment, and the reasons behind his resignation from the GOP. His wife Elizabeth Daley was also at the signing and spoke to the audience.  Jim Jeffords died on August 18, 2014, at the age of 80.
