About the Program
In this Encore Booknotes from December 1994, author and journalist M. Stanton Evans discusses some of the concepts found in his book "The Theme is Freedom: Religion, Politics, and the American Tradition." In "The Theme is Freedom," Mr. Evans contends that common belief about the origins of our country, institutions and freedoms are incorrect and are the product of an accepted "liberal history lesson." He asserts that the roots of U.S. liberties lie in the Christian understanding of the Bible. According to Mr. Evans, modern political liberalism undermines both religion and freedom.
