About the Program
Book TV will be LIVE from the Tia Chucha Bookstore and Cultural Center on May 4, 2014, in Sylmar, California, with award-winning author, publisher, political candidate and community activist Luis J. Rodriguez. He is the author of three non-fiction books:
Always Running: La Vida Loca: Gang Days in L.A. (1993); Hearts and Hands: Creating Community in Violent Times (2001); and It Calls You Back (2011).
He is the author of two children's books, America is Her Name (1996) and It Doesn't Have to be This Way (1999), and the novels The Republic of East L.A. (2002) and Music of the Mill (2005).
Mr. Rodriguez is also the author of four books of poetry:
Poems Across the Pavement (1989); The Concrete River (1991); Trochemoche: Poems (1998); and My Nature is Hunger: New & Selected Poems, 1989-2004 (2005).
Luis J. Rodriguez
Luis J. Rodriguez is the winner of the Carl Sandburg Literary Award for his memoir "Always Running: La Vida Loca: Gang Days in L.A." His "It Calls You Back" was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. He is co-founder of Tia Chucha's Centro Cultural & Bookstore in Sylmar, California, and of Tia Chucha Press. Mr. Rodriguez is also a poet and fiction writer. He was previously the vice presidential candidate for the Justice Party and a candidate for Governor of California for the Green Party.
