Robert Klara recounts the physical improvements made to the White House in 1948.  The author reports on the decampment of President Harry Truman and his family to Blair House during the reconstruction, which consisted of a gutting of the entire interior of the building and the addition of a steel frame and an underground shelter.   Robert Klara speaks at the New York City Bar Association in New York City.
