About the Program
Peniel Joseph is the author of three books:
Waiting 'Til the Midnight Hour: A Narrative History of Black Power in America (2006); Dark Days, Bright Nights: From Black Power to Barack Obama (2010); and Stokely: A Life (2014).
He is also the editor of: The Black Power Movement: Rethinking the Civil Rights-Black Power Era (2006); and Neighborhood Rebels: Black Power at the Local Level (2010).
Peniel Joseph is a history professor at Tufts University, specializing in the subfield of Africana and what he calls "Black Power Studies." He's received fellowships from the Ford Foundation, the Wilson Center and Harvard University. Mr. Joseph has provided political commentary for PBS and NPR.
