Charles Calamiris and Stephen Haber analyzed the banking systems in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil going back several decades to find out what makes banking systems unstable.  They conclude that the deciding factor is the level of political interference in the system.  This event was hosted by Hoover Institution in Washington, DC.

Stephen Haber

Stephen Haber is a professor in the School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University and a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution. He is the author of "The Politics of Property Rights."
