After Words

After Words: Nicholas Johnson, "Negroes and the Gun: The Black Tradition of Arms," hosted by Zaheer Ali

About the Program

Mr. Johnson discusses the unreported tradition of African Americans using firearms to defend their families and communities - a tradition that dates back to Reconstruction.  He argues that the non-violence of the Civil Rights era helped bury this fact of black history.  He talks with Columbia University's Zaheer Ali.
