About the Program

In their book, "Heart," former Vice President Dick Cheney and his longtime cardiologist, Jonathan Reiner, talk about Mr. Cheney's history with heart disease and the advances in cardiology over the past several decades.  Mr. Cheney, who suffered his first of five heart attacks when he was 37, had a heart transplant in 2012.  The National Press Club Journalism Institute hosted this event. 

About the Authors

Dick Cheney

Dick Cheney served as Vice President of the United States from 2001-2009.  He served as Secretary of Defense under President George H. W. Bush and as White House Chief of Staff under President Gerald Ford.  Mr. Cheney is also a former U.S. Congressman from Wyoming and former CEO of Halliburton.

Dr. Jonathan Reiner

Jonathan Reiner is director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at George Washington University Hospital and a professor of medicine at George Washington University Medical Center.
