About the Program

Marina von Neumann Whitman, daughter of mathematician John von Neumann, talks about her life and accomplishments.  Prof. Whitman was the first female to serve on the President's Council of Economic Advisors - under President Nixon - and held the position of vice president and chief economist of General Motors during the 80s, the highest ranking female in the auto industry during that decade.  This event was hosted by the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California.

Marina von Neumann Whitman

Marina von Neumann Whitman is a professor of business administration and public policy at the University of Michigan. From 1979 to 1992 she worked at the General Motors Corporation, first as vice president and chief economist and later as vice president and group executive for public affairs.  Prof. Whitman served as a member of the President's Council of Economic Advisers from 1972-73.  Her books include "Reflections on Interdependence" and "New World, New Rules."
