Susan Moeller discusses the impact of photojournalism on the coverage of war in her book, "Shooting War: Photography and the American Experience of Combat." The Spanish-American War is presented as the first case in which photographs brought the reality of war home to Americans. Subsequent conflicts involving America are analyzed and the experience of wartime photographers is considered.  This Booknotes program originally aired in March 1989.
