About the Program
Former Boston Globe reporters Dick Lehr and Gerard O'Neill recount the life of Boston gangster turned FBI informant James "Whitey" Bulger. The authors' report on Bulger's criminal beginnings in the Southie neighborhood of Boston and his later operation of a crime syndicate the he ran while under the employ of the FBI. Bugler eventually fled Boston and went into hiding; he was arrested in 2011 in Santa Monica, California and currently awaits trail on nineteen charges of murder. Dick Lehr and Gerard O'Neill speak at Porter Square Books in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Dick Lehr is the author or co-author of several books, including The Fence: A Police Cover-up Along Boston's Racial Divide. He is a former reporter at the Boston Globe and currently a journalism professor at Boston University.
