About the Program
The late photojournalist Leonard Freed (1929-2006) documented the March on Washington from its preparations to the day of the proceedings and its aftermath. His hundreds of photographs have been curated by his widow, Brigitte Freed, and accompanied by an essay for the collection by Michael Eric Dyson, sociology professor at Georgetown University, and an afterword authored by Paul Farber, visiting instructor in Urban Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Ms. Freed, Mr. Dyson, and Mr. Farber discuss Leonard Freed’s work and display many of his photographs from the March on Washington at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

Paul Farber is a visiting lecturer in Urban Studies at the University of Pennsylvania and a PhD candidate in American Culture at the University of Michigan.
