About the Program

Mr. Whitacre's memoir tells the story of a small-town Texan who rose through the ranks of business to lead one of the nation's largest telecommunications companies.  He goes on to detail his time working for the Obama administration after the government bailout of General Motors.  Mr. Whitacre also offers solutions to help restore the U.S. economy.  He speaks with Fortune magazine's Stephanie Mehta.

Ed Whitacre

Ed Whitacre was Chief Executive Officer of AT&T for 17 years.  He was called out of retirement by President Obama in 2009 to lead General Motors out of bankruptcy.
