About the Program
Sarah Kilborne recounts the business acumen of her great-great-grandfather, William Skinner, a textile manufacturer in the mid-nineteenth century. The author recalls Skinner's emigration from London and his career ascendancy from a worker in a silk mill to the owner of his own factory, the mill village, "Skinnerville." In 1874 a dam burst near Skinnerville and destroyed the town and forced William Skinner to rebuild. Sarah Kilborne speaks at Northshire Bookstore in Manchester Center, Vermont.
