About the Program
William Souder recounts the life of biologist Rachel Carson (1907-1964), who authored an indictment of synthetic insecticides including DDT in Silent Spring, published in 1962. Mr. Souder examines the affect the book had on environmental awareness, following its publication DDT was banned and the Environmental Protection Agency was created. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of Silent Spring. William Souder speaks at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
