"Barack Obama: The Story" Online Video Interview with Richard Opar

About the Program

Richard Opar is a retired police official in Kenya, an Obama relative by marriage to President Obama's grandfather, and a friend of Barack Obama, Sr.  David Maraniss interviewed him at his home in Kendu Bay, Kenya, on the shore of Lake Victoria, for his biography on President Obama, "Barack Obama: The Story."  The interview took place in 2010.

The discussion in this video revolves around Kenyan independence and tribal politics and Barack Obama, Sr.  Also in the interview are Ken Opala, a Kenyan journalist who worked with Mr. Maraniss in Kenya, and Leo Omolo, another friend of Barack Obama, Sr.
